There were a lot of ruined houses in the area near the walls, which is also the part of town where the Greeks and Armenians used to live until they were pressured to leave by Turkish nationalists in the 1950s. Now it's an immigrant area; the amazing thing is that there were actually people living in this house...although squatting might be the better term.
