This church has some of the best Byzantine mosaics left in the city, after all the iconoclasm in the Orthodox church in the early Middle Ages and the conversion of churches into mosques. The mosaics were preserved when they were plastered over in the conversion to Islam, and were uncovered after WWII. The mosaics date from the 14th century.
